NCAA Tournament: Virginia Tech Beats Indiana 2-1 In Overtime To Advance to the Quarterfinals

The Virginia Tech Hokies won a thriller at the Charlotte 49ers last week 3-2 to advance to the round of 16 and got to get a full week to prepare, but faced a tough challenge going on the road to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the 7th-seeded Indiana Hoosiers. However, the Hokies have faced plenty of tough tests and this one would be another for a Virginia Tech looking to be the Cinderella of this tournament. So far, the slipper continues to fit for the Hokies. https://twitter.com/VT_MSoccer/status/802954782839189504 https://twitter.com/SoccerInsider/status/802958479648550912 Virginia Tech won a 2-1 thriller in overtime over the Hoosiers thanks to an incredible game-winning goal from Forrest White. For the junior midfielder from Crozet, Virginia; it was his first career goal in what was a spectacular finish that could possibly get him some consideration to make the SportsCenter Top 10 in part given the circumstances. The Hokies started the scoring with a 19th minute goal from Brendan Moyers that gave Virginia Tech a 1-0 lead at halftime and for much of the second half till Grant Lillard tied it up for Indiana in the 77th minute. Unlike last Sunday, the Hokies were unable to get a late goal to avoid over time but it didn't take them to much extra time to get that goal with White's goal coming in the 97th minute to send the Hokies through to the quarterfinals. Indiana was able to get some dangerous shots on target, but the star of this game was Virginia Tech goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard who made an impressive 9 saves and only gave up one goal. Lundgaard has been one of the stars of this team and was definitely the player of the game today as the main man that helped send Virginia Tech through to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2007. The Hokies only had 4 shots on goal compared to 11 for Indiana with Marcelo Acuna leading the way with 3 total shots, but the Hokies were able to find a way to win with a fairly stingy defense and great goalkeeping from Lundgaard to advance to the quarterfinals. For Virginia Tech, they will face the winner of Wake Forest against SIU-Edwardsville with the 2nd seeded and ACC champion Demon Deacons being the favorites to go through. The Hokies are emerging as one of this tournament's Cinderella stories and are one win away from advancing to the 2016 College Cup in Houston. Congrats to the Hokies on advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
