Virginia Tech Women's Basketball Jumps Into Top 25 After Win Over Nebraska

The Virginia Tech Hokies are rolling right now under Kenny Brooks with the Hokies entering last week 6-0 before taking advantage of their big chance to get an impressive comeback win over Nebraska. The win over Nebraska also set the Hokies up for a long awaited return to the top 25 which they received today.

Virginia Tech 76, Nebraska 67

The Virginia Tech Hokies faced a tough opponent in the Nebraska Cornhuskers at home at Cassell Coliseum that tested the Hokies' resilience but a night after Virginia Tech's men's basketball came back from a big deficit in Ann Arbor, Kenny Brooks and his Hokies' team did exactly the same. After being down 10 at halftime and seeming close to losing their first game of the season, the Hokies outscored Nebraska by 19 in the second half on their way to an impressive 76-67 comeback victory over the Cornhuskers. The Hokies showed a whole lot of gri and determination while proving to be a team that knows how to finish out games, something that will be important once ACC play starts. Regan Magarity was the star of this game as the Hokies' forward had 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals while fellow forward Sidney Cook also had a strong day with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Virginia Tech's depth in the frontcourt is a concern, but they definitely don't have an issue with their starting talent in the frontcourt with the duo of Cook and Magarity. Vanessa Panousis had arguably the best game she has had yet this season as she had 17 points and 4 assists while Chanette Hicks struggled scoring but still had 6 points while also having 6 steals, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds while Sami Hill had 6 points. Kaela Kinder played limited minutes but was quite productive for her 7 minutes with 5 points and 3 rebounds while Kendyl Brooks made one of her four three-point shots. Virginia Tech has shown that they can find different ways to win games and different players to rely on to provide the bulk of the scoring with Hicks being held under 12 points for the first time this season and the Hokies still finding a way to win. Kenny Brooks also has built a resilient, tough team that will be ready for the multitude of tests that will come from playing a rigorous ACC schedule.

Virginia Tech Jumps In Top 25 At 25th

https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/805838343560953856 The Virginia Tech Hokies made their return to the AP top 25 in 25th by one vote for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. The Hokies have gotten off to an impressive 7-0 starts highlighted by impressive wins over Tennessee, Georgetown, and Nebraska while also picking up a couple of road wins at UCF and Charleston. Virginia Tech has a chance at entering their ACC opener against North Carolina as an undefeated team with all but one of their games coming at home against non-power conference teams. However, the Hokies do have one fairly big challenge looming on December 18th when they have to go on the road to the Auburn Tigers who just dropped out of the top 25 this past week. Right now, Virginia Tech definitely looks like a NCAA Tournament-caliber team in what has been a very impressive start to the Kenny Brooks era.
