It took the Hokies a half to get going against the Bulldogs, but some halftime adjustments allowed the Hokies to take care of business as everyone expected them to. The Virginia Tech Hokies beat The Citadel Bulldogs 113-71 in a game that was a tale of two halves with VT struggling in the first half and absolutely dominating the second half in an extremely impressive manner. The Hokies got off to a sluggish start in the first half as they failed to adapt to the Bulldogs' style, but The Citadel was never able to get their lead into double-digits and went into halftime up only 44-40. However, the Hokies woke up at halftime and took over the ballgame with one of their most dominant second half performances of the season after their slow first half start. Virginia Tech outscored The Citadel 73-27 in the second half as Virginia Tech had only 6 turnovers after 11 first half turnovers helped The Citadel get their four-point lead. The Hokies came out fast and within the first several had a double-digit lead that they only opened up more and more as the game went along all the way to the end with Khadim Sy making a three as time expired to make it a 42-point victory. The Hokies were led by a big day from Chris Clarke who had what is believed to be the first triple-double in Virginia Tech history with 13 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals in 29 minutes of action. Clarke is playing with more and more confidence as the season goes along and his impressive triple-double is the latest example of how the sky is the limit for Clarke. Meanwhile, Ahmed Hill led the Hokies with 22 points as he went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc while also getting 8 rebounds and 4 assists in this game. Hill continues to play quite well and is definitely proving to be one of the best three-point shooters in the ACC along with being one of the conference's best shooting guards. Zach LeDay nearly had a double-double today with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks while Khadim Sy had a big performance with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals as he continues to gain more and more comfort in the post. Justin Robinson also had 14 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds after getting into first half foul trouble while Justin Bibbs and Ty Outlaw both also had 14 points with Outlaw having 7 rebounds while Seth Allen had 6 points and 6 assists. Virginia Tech seemed to get things under control in the second half with 6 turnovers in the final 20 minutes compared to 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Virginia Tech shot a strong 11-for-18 from beyond the arc while also shooting 42-for-69 from the field and having 30 assists, one short of tying Virginia Tech's school record. Outside of turnovers and an average free-throw shooting day (18-26), Virginia Tech put together a strong performance in all facets including on the glass as the Hokies outrebounded The Citadel 52-28 though the offensive rebound margin was only 11-9 in Virginia Tech's favor. Virginia Tech's dominant second half performance was one of the best halves that Virginia Tech has put together over the past few years on their way to a massive 42-point victory that gives the Hokies a shot at jumping into the top 25 next week.
