Five Stand Out For 2018 Four-Star WR Tre Turner

Tre Turner has emerged as one of the top recruits in the state of North Carolina for the Class of 2018 with 18 offers already from many major programs including Florida State, Florida, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Penn State, North Carolina, Miami, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Carolina, and more. Turner is also ranked as a four-star recruit across the board and as one of North Carolina's top recruits with the 247 Sports Composite and ESPN ranking him fifth in North Carolina, 247 Sports ranking him sixth, and Rivals ranking him fourth. Nationally, Turner is also highly regarded by national rankings with 247 Sports ranking him 162nd nationally, ESPN ranking him 143rd, the 247 Sports Composite ranking him 130th, and Rivals ranking him 70th. Turner has emerged as a high priority target for plenty of major programs and recently, Turner gave us some insight into his recruitment and revealed that five schools currently stand out for him. Four-star athlete Tre Turner told us that the five schools that currently stand out to him include Virginia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida State, and Penn State in no particular order. Turner also told us that Virginia Tech, South Carolina, North Carolina, Duke, and Virginia are the schools that are most in contact with Turner while also telling us that he plans to visit South Carolina and Virginia Tech for their junior days this spring. Turner also says that he believes that Ohio State will offer him soon and that he talks with Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano a lot. Turner also told us that he currently does not have a timetable for making a commitment and that he is being recruited in general as a wide receiver. Virginia Tech has made Turner a priority target at wide receiver in the Class of 2018, and the Hokies have put themselves in a strong position early to be right in the middle of the battle. Virginia Tech has some player connections to Turner's hometown of Greensboro with Mook Reynolds and VT QB commit Hendon Hooker both being from Greensboro though UNC also has the in-state advantage and South Carolina has some Greensboro connections with RB CJ Freeman, who was also a top VT target in the 2016 class. Based on Turner's comments to us, it seems like Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and North Carolina are the frontrunners for now given how they are in Turner's group of standout schools and how he seems to be a high priority for these three programs. Both Florida State and Penn State are also dangerous threats given their name-brand status and the fact that both of these programs haven't been in contact with Turner as much though the four-star NC WR seems not to be as big of a priority for these schools as he is for the other three. Turner also told us the primary recruiters from his top targets including WRs Coach Holmon Wiggins for Virginia Tech, co-offensive coordinator and WRs coach Gunter Brewer for North Carolina, co-offensive coordinator and WRs coach Bryan McClendon for South Carolina, and WRs coach Josh Gattis for Penn State, and RBs coach Jay Graham for Florida State. It's unsurprising to see four out of his top schools have their WRs coaches as the primary recruiter for Turner and shows how he is a top WR target for at least most of his top 5. Tre Turner will continue to be a top target for many programs with Virginia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida State, and Penn State all right in the hunt for the four-star Greensboro WR.
