[Credit: Harley Taylor][/caption]With Virginia Tech's early enrollees being announced today, Virginia Tech's football roster on Hokiesports.com was updated which ed to some interesting discoveries on players missing from the roster that hadn't made any public announcements on their future. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/821485419472764929 https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/821487906044997632 https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/821484049537658880 We can now confirm that both Mitchell Ludwig and Chris Durkin have left the Virginia Tech football team per a source confirming what Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times and Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch saw earlier today via the Hokiesports.com roster. Durkin does intend to transfer to continue his college football career while Ludwig's football career will end after being the Hokies' starting punter this past season. The news on Chris Durkin isn't necessarily a major surprise as the former quarterback turned tight end/wide receiver hybrid never really gained playing time for the Hokies. It will be interesting to see if Durkin stays outside of if his new team will try him again at quarterback. Mitchell Ludwig's departure is definitely much more surprising given how most expected him to be back as the starting punter after showing a lot of progress throughout the season. Ludwig averaged 38.8 yards per punt in his one season starting for the Hokies while also having 31 of his 68 punts go inside the 20. The departure of Ludwig opens the door for Virginia Tech's new punting signee Oscar Bradburn to earn the job while Jordan Stout also may be able to push him for that job this summer. The battle to replace Ludwig may not truly start till the summer though Bradburn definitely has a chance to lock up the starting punter job this spring. We wish Chris Durkin and Mitchell Ludwig the best in their future endeavors.
