Then, Robie got himself a free audition opportunity with Robie being named the interim head coach for the ACC and NCAA Championships after Dresser's departure at the end of the dual-meet season. The Hokies did well with Robie as the interim easily winning the ACC Championships on enemy territory in Raleigh and followed that with five wrestlers earning All-America honors and a sixth place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Robie made a strong case that he should be the next one to take over the Virginia Tech wrestling program and now, the Hokies have made their decision that likely will have many fans happy. https://twitter.com/VT_Wrestling/status/844279443321425921 Virginia Tech has announced that Tony Robie has had the interim tag removed and will be the head coach of the Virginia Tech wrestling program going forward. Robie was the right hand man for Kevin Dresser throughout the Dresser era and played a big role in helping Virginia Tech become a national power in wrestling during the Dresser era. Robie is also the first Virginia Tech assistant to be promoted to a head coaching position since Whit Babcock has become Virginia Tech's athletic director.
