LB Eron Carter Among Trio To Leave Virginia Tech Football Team

During spring football, there are usually a few players who will leave the football team though most of that usually happens before or after spring practice, not during. However, the Hokies have seen three players choose to leave the program including one player that was on scholarship. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/848932306505084928 According to Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times, linebackers Eron Carter and Tre Hubbard, and long snapper Wright Bynum have left the Virginia Tech football team. Bynum was the holder on kicks for the Hokies last season while Tre Hubbard played in three games and Carter redshirted last year. Eron Carter was a late offer in Justin Fuente's first class that was a surprise to many and never had much of a chance to play early for the Hokies. Carter has continued to be buried on the Hokies' depth chart with Tavante Beckett taking the backup job this spring and both Sean Huelskamp and early enrollee Rico Kearney likely to be ahead of him on the depth chart. It wouldn't be surprising to see Carter transfer to a smaller program as he had a good amount of Group of 5 FBS offers coming out of high school. While Carter didn't seem likely to play much at VT, his departure not only gives him the chance to transfer a school where he could start at but also opens up another scholarship for the Hokies to give them more room in their 2018 class after signing a large 2017 class of 27 players. Tre Hubbard was a big walk-on get for the Hokies as a well-known 757 recruit but wasn't able to make much of an impact for the Hokies other than having 1 tackle and 1 forced fumble against Virginia. Wright Bynum had been the Hokies' holder and backup long snapper, but has also decided to now leave the VT football program.
