Virginia Tech Is In Top 3 After Offering OT Gabriel Gonzalez

The Virginia Tech Hokies are looking to bring in a significant group of offensive linemen in the Class of 2018 and have sent out plenty of offers to high school and junior college linemen over the past few months. One of those offensive lineman is Mebane, North Carolina offensive tackle Gabriel Gonzalez who the Hokies had shown plenty of interest in before deciding to offer him recently. Despite just offering Gonzalez this past week, the Hokies are already in great shape for Gonzalez who could definitely end up being a piece of the #NC2VT movement that VT is pushing in their efforts to sign a large group of North Carolina recruits in 2018. Gabriel Gonzalez told us that the Hokies are currently in his top 3 though he did not mention to us the other 2 schools that are in that group. Gonzalez told us that NC State, Duke, ECU, and Wake Forest were the schools that had been recruiting him the hardest though with that coming just after VT offered, that seems very likely to change in the coming weeks as VT becomes seriously involved in his recruitment. Gonzalez is definitely a recruit on the rise with a growing offer list that includes plenty of quality schools including Virginia Tech, NC State, Duke, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Old Dominion, UCF, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, and Furman with his offers from Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Duke, and Wake Forest all coming in May. Gonzalez was hoping for a VT offer but wasn't sure he was going to get one, making Wednesday's offer quite big for him as he told us, "I wasn't really sure when I was going to get a VT offer, or if I was even going to get one! So no, I wasn't really expecting it today, but I'm very thankful that I did!!" Gonzalez also mentioned that the offer had a "big impact" on his recruitment as shown by how VT immediately moved into his top 3. Gonzalez told us that he is hoping to take visits to Virginia Tech, NC State, Duke, and East Carolina this summer with those schools appearing to be among the top contenders for Gonzalez at this point. Gonzalez also told us that he plans to release his top 3 "early in the summer" with NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, and ECU all among the top contenders to be in that top group with VT. Gonzalez is still fairly early on his recruitment as many power 5 schools have just started to offer him over the past month but a few of them showed lots of interest even before offering especially Virginia Tech. Now, that early interest is paying off with the Hokies emerging as the frontrunner and jumping into the top 3 for Gonzalez despite having just offered this past week. NC State and Duke appear to be fairly big threats as the two in-state power 5 schools that Gonzalez mentioned he hopes to visit this summer while ECU definitely could be a sleeper though with Gonzalez having offers from power 5 schools that are closer to home like Duke and NC State. Gabriel Gonzalez is a quality offensive line recruit that is seeing his recruitment blow up this May as many schools see him as a power 5 offensive lineman due in part to his very good athleticism. For now, Virginia Tech is in great shape in their pursuit of Gonzalez with the Hokies jumping right into his top 3 after offering him Wednesday.
