Four-Star WR Tre Turner Commits to Virginia Tech

Tre Turner 2
The Virginia Tech Hokies have built a strong class with 8 commits headlined by four-star WR Darryle Simmons, three-star DB Chamarri Conner, and Elite 11 QB Quincy Patterson. The Hokies have a bunch of guys who are seen as a four-star recruit on one or two sites but they haven't gained a unanimous four-star recruit (or had one of their commits elevated to that status yet). However, that has now changed as the Hokies have landed one of their top overall targets. https://twitter.com/treturner_15/status/870072702941503488 Four-star WR Tre Turner has committed to Virginia Tech over a tremendous list of offers that includes Florida State, Penn State, North Carolina, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Miami, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, South Carolina, West Virginia, Louisville, Wisconsin, and more. Turner becomes the Hokies' ninth commit overall including third WR commit (4* Darryle Simmons, 3 Bryce Thompson) and second commit from North Carolina (3 DT Joe Kane). Tre Turner talked about his reasoning for choosing Virginia Tech with local media that were in attendance. https://twitter.com/bhallwfmy/status/870078639882293248 Turner is well-regarded by all as a unanimous four-star and top 200 national recruit including 101st overall by Rivals while Turner is also seen as one of the top 10 recruits in North Carolina including fourth best in NC by ESPN and Rivals, sixth best by 247 Sports Composite, and tenth best by 247 Sports. Turner is also ranked as the sixth best athlete by the 247 Sports Composite, eighth best ATH by 247 Sports, 28th best WR by ESPN, and 19th best WR by Rivals. There is no doubt that Tre Turner is a home run pickup for the Hokies as Turner was one of the top targets for Virginia Tech in this class across all positions. Turner is a tremendous athlete with great speed and size being 6'4'' and definitely has the skill set to be a playmaker early on. Virginia Tech may have never had a receiver as athletic and tall as Turner with there being almost no doubt that the four-star recruit from Greensboro can come in and earn playing time as a true freshman. Turner will also reportedly be an early enrollee, making his chances of playing as a freshman even greater especially with Justin Fuente looking to have 7 or 8 receivers he can rely on. Turner is a huge get for the Hokies and launches the #NC2VT with one of North Carolina's top recruits especially with the Hokies beating out a top in-state program like North Carolina and a national power like Florida State to get the Greensboro playmaker. Virginia Tech has gotten some major commitments in Justin Fuente's short tenure with Turner being the biggest commitment since Devon Hunter committed to the Hokies in mid-January. Turner now becomes a big asset on the recruiting trail that can definitely help recruit plenty of other North Carolina athletes including a couple top recruits in the Greensboro area in four-star OLB/S Alan Tisdale and three-star CB DJ Crossen, both of whom we also believe will end up being Hokies.
