Three-Star ATH Armani Chatman Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have built a strong recruiting class so far with 13 commits entering today headlined by two four-star wide receivers in Tre Turner and Darryle Simmons. However, the Hokies entered today without a single commit from the state of Virginia but tonight, that changed. https://twitter.com/iamarmani9/status/878448164638007296 Three-star ATH Armani Chatman out of Bishop Sullivan and the 757 announced tonight that he has committed to Virginia Tech, the Hokies' 14th 2018 commit and first from Virginia. Chatman has a solid offer list that includes Virginia Tech, Auburn, West Virginia, NC State, Maryland, Rutgers, and others. Chatman is a very good get for the Hokies out of the 757 as one of the top recruits from that area this cycle with Rivals having him as a four-star, and ESPN, 247 Sports, and the 247 Sports Composite having him as a three-star. Chatman is a great first get in the state of Virginia with the 247 Sports Composite and ESPN ranking him ninth in Virginia and Rivals ranking him as the fifth best recruit in Virginia. Zohn Burden led the charge for the Hokies with Chatman and continues to show his recruiting prowess in getting the Hokies first commit out of the 757 this cycle especially when it seemed like Chatman was trending away from Blacksburg. Getting Chatman also should help the Hokies at Bishop Sullivan where Virginia Tech definitely will look to rebuild some interest especially after Tahj Capehart's National Signing Day flip from the Hokies to Maryland. Chatman is an intriguing pickup for the Hokies that has the versatility to be either a cornerback or wide receiver in Blacksburg though wide receiver seems slightly more likely currently due in part to Bryce Thompson's decommitment leaving a good fit at the slot for Chatman. However, Chatman appears to likely have the option of getting to play either spot similar to how Caleb Farley was able to spend time at WR and CB this spring before the Hokies settled on Farley playing offense. Congrats to Armani Chatman on his commitment to Virginia Tech.
