Virginia Tech Makes Top 10 For Four-Star Guard Dwayne Cohill

With a scholarship open going into the 2017-2018 season and only one 2018 commit in three-star guard Jarren McAllister, Buzz Williams and Virginia Tech are set for a large recruiting class in 2018 of at least four including 3 guards with Ty Outlaw, Justin Bibbs, and Devin Wilson all graduating after this year while also having plenty of room still in their 2018 class. One guy who VT has a lot of interest in is four-star guard Dwyane Cohill who released his top 10 this past week. https://twitter.com/therealdwayne35/status/883401088853880833 Virginia Tech made the top 10 for the Cleveland native Cohill along with Ohio State, Texas, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Dayton, Penn State, and UNLV. There are three prominent schools that missed the cut in Butler, Xavier, and Northwestern; all of whom missed this past year's NCAA Tournament. Cohill is well-regarded nationally as Rivals ranks him as the 66th best recruit in the Class of 2018, ESPN ranks him 93rd, 247 Sports ranks him 120th, and the 247 Sports Composite ranks him 86th. Cohill is also ranked as the fifth best combo guard by 247 Sports and the 247 Sports Composite while ESPN has him as the 21st best point guard along with all three of these recruiting rankings having him among Ohio's top 5 recruits. With Cohill being seen as a combo guard, he appears to be someone who could fit quite well in Blacksburg especially with Buzz Williams liking to have at least a couple of guys who fit that combo guard bill as we saw this past season with Seth Allen running the point at times and working off the ball with Justin Robinson at the point. Having the versatility to play with and without the ball is valuable in Buzz's scheme and that makes a combo guard like Cohill potentially a really good fit in Blacksburg. Right now, it's hard not to see Ohio State as the favorite on paper for Cohill as the big in-state program with a new head coach in Chris Holtmann who has a strong track record of success at Butler. Dayton could also be a team to watch but with Archie Miller now gone, it's harder to see the Flyers being big factors. West Virginia and Pittsburgh also profile as schools to watch that aren't too far away and have good track records of success while the Hokies definitely should be seen as a contender at this point. Dwayne Cohill is beginning to work towards a decision with the Hokies making the first cut for the talented four-star guard from Cleveland.
