Divine Deablo is Out For the Season

Divine Deablo 1 1
Divine Deablo made the move from wide receiver to free safety, and it paid off with Deablo becoming the Hokies' third safety and having a significant role rotating in and out with Reggie Floyd. Deablo got off to a solid start with a strong performance against West Virginia and his first career interception against ODU. However, Deablo came off the field limping against ODU after that interception. Today, we learned about severity of that injury. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/912346009363259392 Justin Fuente announced today that Divine Deablo is out for the rest of the season with an undisclosed injury. Deablo was seen on crutches and in an air cast during the game after his interception. With Deablo having only played four games, Virginia Tech can apply for a medical redshirt for him. Unsurprisingly, Virginia Tech is working on doing just that. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/912349985815003136 Though Divine Deablo had a significant role in the first four games, he did only play the first four games and should have a strong case for receiving a medical redshirt. Deablo is a disappointing loss for the Hokies as the sophomore from North Carolina had 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and 3 pass breakups in his four games this season. Deablo played heavily against West Virginia while rotating fairly regularly throughout the first four games with starting rover Reggie Floyd before suffering his season-ending injury Saturday. With Deablo injured, Khalil Ladler is now listed on the depth chart as the backup role. However, Devon Hunter is likely to slide into that role as the Hokies' top backup safety. Reggie Floyd will likely see his playing time increase though Hunter may play a few first team defensive snaps against Clemson. We wish for a full and speedy recovery for Divine Deablo from his injury.
