Cam Phillips "Day-to-Day" With Foot Sprain

Cam Phillips 1 1
Virginia Tech star WR Cam Phillips suffered a foot sprain in the first quarter Saturday night against Boston College. The Hokies' star receiver was unable to return after multiple attempts to do so. However, Justin Fuente downplayed the severity of the injury after the game. Today, Fuente updated the status of Phillips on the ACC Teleconference Call (via HokieHaven.com transcript). "Well, we'll get Cam back out there as quickly as we can," Justin Fuente said. "You know, I think he's progressing nicely, and we'll kind of just take it day by day." This is the latest encouraging news on the status of Phillips. All signs continue to be that this injury is minor and that he will be 100% when the Hokies face North Carolina next week. The Hokies' bye week has come at an ideal time with Phillips having an addition week to recover from his foot sprain. While the Hokies' receivers did fine without Phillips and CJ Carroll Saturday night, getting Phillips back to 100% and keeping him there will be very important, especially with Miami looming in a few weeks. Phillips isn't missing much in terms of practice reps as Justin Fuente gave many starters a day off yesterday to allow them to rest up, and to get some backups an increased number of practice reps. For now, Cam Phillips is on track to be 100% by the beginning of next week at the latest, and it's basically certain that he will play next week against North Carolina based on all we know.
