Three-Star PG Jon Kabongo Commits to Virginia Tech

Vt students against ole miss
After David Duke committed to Providence, Virginia Tech turned their attention to Canadian point guard Jon Kabongo. Kabongo took an official visit to Blacksburg this past weekend and today, he announced that this won't be his last trip to Blacksburg. https://twitter.com/ChosenB01/status/922138135772966912 Three-star PG Jon Kabongo committed to Virginia Tech today. Kabongo is the Hokies' third commit of their 2018 class joining four-star SF Landers Nolley and three-star SG Jarren McAllister. This is the second-straight year that the Hokies have added a Canadian with Nickeil Alexander-Walker signing last year. Jon Kabongo may have a familiar last name to diehard college basketball fans as he is the brother of former Texas PG Myck Kabongo. Scouts have differing opinions on Jon Kabongo as ESPN rates him as a four-star recruit while 247 Sports has him as a three-star recruit. Kabongo is ranked as the 35th best point guard by ESPN and the 48th best point guard by 247 Sports. Injuries have prevented Kabongo from receiving more offers, but Indiana has also offered Kabongo previously. Kabongo gives Virginia Tech a true point guard in their 2018 class with Jarren McAllister profiling more as a combo guard. Kabongo is an intriguing talent who broke onto the season early in his high school career, but has been slowed by injuries since. However, Virginia Tech stuck with Kabongo and have landed an intriguing sleeper. Buzz Williams continues to have lots of success with official visits on big football weekends. We saw this success with Landers Nolley less than a month ago, and with all three of the Hokies' 2019 commits last year. Congrats to Jon Kabongo on his commitment to Virginia Tech.
