Bud Foster Donates Scholarship to Virginia Tech

Bud Foster 1
Other than Frank Beamer, there is no one more synonymous with Virginia Tech in college football than Bud Foster. The Hokies' long-time defensive coordinator has been at Virginia Tech for 31 seasons and today, he announced that he's giving back to VT through his foundation. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/923220380768227328 Bud Foster is making a $100,000 donation to fund a scholarship for one football player that will be awarded annually. The scholarship will be known as "The Bud Foster Lunch Pail Defense Foundation Athletic Scholarship." Foster's foundation has helped many college-bound students in the New River Valley previously with this being his latest way of giving back to the community. Here is what Foster had to say in the press release on this scholarship. “It’s just a way for me to give back to the university and to a department that has been so good to me for 30-plus years,” Bud Foster said. “We’ve had the Lunch Pail Defense Foundation for several years, and we created it for scholarship purposes for kids in the New River Valley and the Roanoke Valley. We just felt like, as we moved forward, with what the lunch pail is all about and what it means to the university and to the program, it felt like a no-brainer to get people involved and help endow a scholarship for the department and deserving student-athletes." “There are so many coaches, administrators, fans and alums who are doing their part to help the Hokie Club and promote the Drive for 25. I just felt like it was time for us to jump in, too and do our part. Hopefully it will inspire other Hokies to get involved at whatever level they can. We’re all in it together, as Coach Beamer used to say.” This is an awesome move by Bud Foster to give back to a university that he's always given a lot to as an extension of what he's been doing in the New River Valley for years now. While the student-athlete moniker may be questioned by some, Bud Foster is making it clear that being a student-athlete is still important as least for anyone who plays in his program.
