Three-Star ATH Kaleb Smith Commits to Virginia Tech as a Walk-On

Fist Bump 1
Virginia Tech hasn't been afraid to look outside of Virginia in the 2018 recruiting cycle with in-state talent being down this cycle. However, that also hasn't stopped the Hokies from being open to add talented in-state recruits on scholarship or as a walk-on. Now, the Hokies have added a talented walk-on who has scholarship offers from ACC schools. Three-star ATH Kaleb Smith has committed to Virginia Tech per his Twitter account. Smith was previously committed to Wake Forest on a scholarship offer with Smith flipping his commitment to VT as a walk-on at the beginning of the week according to our sources. Kaleb Smith is rated as a three-star by ESPN and 247 Sports. Smith is ranked as the 76th best safety by ESPN and 175th best WR by 247 Sports. Smith is among the top 30 recruits in Virginia with 247 Sports ranking him 22nd in the Commonwealth and ESPN ranking him 23rd. This is a great pickup for Virginia Tech, especially with him being a walk-on who doesn't hurt the Hokies' tight scholarship numbers. What makes this more impressive is the fact that Smith chose to walk-on at Virginia Tech over several scholarship offers including offers from Virginia, Wake Forest, and East Carolina. Smith has ideal size to play at either wide receiver or safety at 6'3'' though it's likely that Smith will redshirt next year as the Hokies determine where his best fit is at. Congrats to Kaleb Smith on committing to Virginia Tech.
