Cam Phillips, Reggie Floyd are Our Hokies of the Game Against Miami

Cam Phillips 1
Virginia Tech came up short Saturday night, suffering a disappointing 28-10 loss at Miami. The Hokies were outmatched by a Miami team that proved to be better than anyone expected. With the loss, the Hokies were eliminated from ACC Championship contention while Miami is an ACC win or UVA loss away from clinching the Coastal. Despite the loss, there were still some strong performances. With that said, here are our Hokies of the Game.

Offensive Hokie of the Game: Cam Phillips

Virginia Tech's offense struggled, but Cam Phillips played quite well and had his best game in weeks. Phillips led Virginia Tech with 7 catches for 101 yards including an impressive 27-yard reception near the end of the first half that got the Hokies in the red zone for the first time all night. Cam Phillips consistently is able to get separation even as teams try to find ways to put extra coverage on him. Phillips may not have been 100% the past two weeks since suffering a foot sprain at Boston College, but he appears back to full strength now and showed why he's well on his way to being an All-ACC First Team WR. Josh Jackson played with a lot of toughness and heart despite having little time to actually throw the football. Jackson wasn't great but wasn't too bad overall going 20-for-32 for 197 yards and 2 interceptions along with 12 rushing yards and a touchdown. Sean Savoy had a big, unavoidable fumble late in the first half, but was solid otherwise with 4 catches for 39 yards and 4 carries for 9 yards.

Defensive Hokie of the Game: Reggie Floyd

Virginia Tech's defense played well outside of a couple of big plays and a few missed tackles. Reggie Floyd led the way for Virginia Tech's defense with an interception and three tackles in the Hokies' win over Miami. Floyd was called for a controversial penalty that even the TV referee analyst disagreed with. Reggie Floyd has proven to be a physical playmaker who can drop into coverage effectively, but is very good when playing inside the box. Floyd showed his pass coverage skills Saturday night with a big interception that helped give the Hokies some momentum that they were unable to take advantage of. Tremaine Edmunds had a big game as well with 9 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 1 pass breakup as he showed once again why he is a future first round pick. Adonis Alexander wasn't perfect in coverage, but he made some big plays with 3 tackles, a big interception near the end of the first half, and a forced fumble. Congrats to Cam Phillips and Reggie Floyd on being our Hokies of the Game.
