For the first time, legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer was eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame. While no one knew when Beamer would be inducted into the Hall of Fame, everybody knew it was only a matter of time. Today, Beamer received his call to the Hall of Fame. https://twitter.com/HokiesFB/status/950399716424081408 The College Football Hall of Fame announced that Frank Beamer will be inducted as part of the 2018 class. Because of this honor, Beamer will also be a part of tonight's coin toss for the College Football Playoff National Championship game. The following coaches and athletes will also be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
  • Texas/UNC HC Mack Brown
  • Michigan DB Charles Woodson
  • Miami DB Ed Reed
  • Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson
  • Georgia OT Matt Stinchcomb
  • Penn State QB Kerry Collins
  • Nebraska OL Aaron Taylor
  • Temple RB Paul Palmer
  • Illinois LB Dana Howard
  • Rice RB Trevor Cobb
  • Northwest Missouri State HC Mel Tjeerdsma
There's no doubt that Beamer is worthy of being a first ballot Hall of Famer after an exceptional career where he turned Virginia Tech into a national title contender and consistent ACC contender. Over his impressive 29-year run at Virginia Tech, Beamer went 238-121-2 with 4 ACC titles, 3 Big East titles, 1 national championship appearnace, and 23 straight bowl appearances. Beamer turned a VT program that was more of a mid-tier program into a nationally-recognized program that took over the state of Virginia in football. Congrats Coach Beamer on being named to the College Football Hall of Fame.
