Virginia Tech Beats Wake Forest 83-75

Ahmed Hill 1 1
After picking up their first ACC win of the season at home against Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech headed on the road to Winston-Salem in search of their first road win. The Hokies knew that they needed to pick up a win against a Wake Forest team likely to finish in the bottom third of the ACC, and they did exactly that. Virginia Tech picked up their first ACC road win of the year 83-75 over Wake Forest, improving to 13-4 on the season and 2-2 in ACC play. The Hokies have a big opportunity to pick up their best win of the season on the road at a Louisville team that hasn't looked as good with David Padgett at the helm instead of Rick Pitino. Virginia Tech shot the ball quite well in this game shooting 50.9% from the field and going 12-28 from beyond the arc, a major improvement from the past few games. The Hokies also had 20 assists, another positive sign of their improved passing while their 11 turnovers weren't great, but weren't too bad either. Rebounding was an issue as the Hokies gave up 14 offensive rebounds while Wake also shot 51.4% from the field in the second half as the Hokies' defense wasn't as effective. Ahmed Hill led the charge with one of his best games of the season with 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals on 7-12 shooting including 5-10 from beyond the arc. Hill found his rhythm from beyond the arc and was able to make some big shots, especially in the second half. Hill's improved shooting is a great sign for the Hokies going forward as the competition continues to get tougher. Justin Bibbs also found his rhythm tonight with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists on 7-10 shooting including 3-6 from beyond the arc. Justin Robinson continue his improved play with 13 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 2 rebounds as the Hokies' floor general was in command tonight. Outside of 6 turnovers, Chris Clarke was quite effective with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals as he once again stuffed the stat sheet and made lots of great hustle plays. Kerry Blackshear had a quiet first half with only 4 rebounds, but Blackshear picked up his play in the second half with 10 points and 2 rebounds including a pair of threes. Nickeil Alexander-Walker had a quiet night with 7 points and 3 rebounds and was the only Hokie who scored single-digit points. Devin Wilson and Wabissa Bede each had 2 assists and 1 rebound while PJ Horne played a few minutes in this game. Virginia Tech has picked up their play best exemplified by an impressive first half before withstanding Wake Forest's significant run to hold on for an eight-point victory. After picking up the two wins they were supposed to get, the Hokies now have their chance to pick up a big win at Louisville Saturday.
