2017 TLP Top 10 Hokies: #3 Greg Stroman

Greg Stroman 1
Our countdown of the top 10 Hokies from the 2017 season as voted by The Tech Lunch Pail staff continues at #3 with Greg Stroman. Greg Stroman was one of the most dynamic players in all of college football this season. Stroman was more than just a jack of all trades as one of the best cornerbacks in all of college football and one of the ACC's best punt returners. After a strong junior season, Stroman had his best season yet as a senior on his way to earning All-ACC First Team honors at CB. Stroman finished the season with 20 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 11 pass breakups with those latter two stats being career highs. Stroman was dominant in man coverage with teams ignoring his side of the field most of the time. When opposing QBs did decide to throw the ball his way, it almost always ended up being an incompletion or an interception with Stroman making some impressive plays in coverage. However, Stroman was more than just a prolific cornerback as one of the best punt returners in the country. Stroman had his best season as a punt returner averaging a career high 11.3 yards per return plus 2 punt return touchdowns while coming close to a third against Clemson. Stroman's punt returning led him to earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors as a specialist though Stroman had a strong case for receiving a higher honor as a return man. Looking ahead to the NFL Draft, Stroman is viewed as a day 3 draft pick, but definitely has the talent to come in and provide quality depth for whatever team selects him. Stroman also benefits from being a great punt returner who could compete for return jobs as a rookie. On top of that, Greg Stroman has plenty of great tape that scouts will love to see and help make him a low risk pick for whoever selects him. If Stroman has a strong NFL Combine performance, his stock could take a big jump from being a late round guy to a day 2 draft pick who has great measureables and impressive tape from the past two seasons.
