One of the big reasons why Justin Fuente was given an extension through 2024: his ability to recruit. Earlier today, Hokie fans were reminded of that when Jamarcus Chatman announced his top four: Miami, North Carolina, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.

Jamarcus Chatman, an ESPN 4-star recruit out of Rome, GA, is ranked as the 36
th best defensive tackle in the class of 2018 (
ESPN.com). At 6’3, 267 pounds, Chatman is very quick and versatile for his size. He is capable of getting into the backfield at either the end or the tackle position. He finished his senior season with 30 tackles, 9.5 for loss, and three sacks for Rome High School (
Tallahassee Democrat).
If Chatman chooses VT, he would join Cam Goode, Joe Kane, and Eli Adams as VT's defensive line commits for 2018. The Hokies have made offers to other high-profile defensive lineman and are in pursuit of four-star DE/OLB Javontae Jean-Baptiste and three-star DL Jaevon Becton.
Currently, Virginia Tech’s 2018 recruiting class is ranked 21
st in the country and 3
rd in the ACC by ESPN. If the Hokies could manage to beat powerhouse programs Miami and Florida State for the Georgia native, it would send a strong message to the college football world about where VT is headed.
Although Chatman has spoke highly of those two Florida schools, he also stated that he was very impressed with the academic atmosphere at VT during his January visit (
VT Scoop).
After hosting Jamarcus Chatman on an official visit, Virginia Tech is right in the hunt for him as National Signing Day approaches.
