Virginia Tech Earns WNIT Bid, Will Host Navy

Kendyl Brooks Delaware State 1 2016
The Virginia Tech Women's Basketball team will host the Navy Midshipmen on Friday in Cassell Coliseum in the first round of the WNIT. The tipoff time will be announced on Tuesday, March 13th. The Hokies and the Midshipmen have only met once before. Ironically, that came last year in the WNIT tournament where Tech ousted Navy 75-64 in Cassell Coliseum. Navy comes into this game with a 25-7 record after finishing third in the Patriot League. This is the third consecutive WNIT tournament appearance for the Hokies and the second-straight under head coach Kenny Brooks. Tech is 18-13 overall this season, posting an 11-4 record at home. This is a strong accomplishment for Tech as they have established themselves as a consistent postseason team under Kenny Brooks. Fellow ACC school Georgia Tech is in the tournament and hosts Bethune-Cookman on Thursday, while New River Valley companion Radford travels to Penn State on Thursday. Tickets go on sale Tuesday morning at 10am, with students and children tickets being $5 and adults $10. The Hokie Club is giving a gift to students, granting the first 200 students with free admission to the game on Friday night thanks to a donor's gift. In their last game, Virginia Tech fell short against No. 4 Louisville 73-70. Tech will most likely be favored in this matchup on Friday and with a win, they would advance to play the winner of George Mason and Stephen F. Austin. That game would most likely be played in Blacksburg.
