Virginia Tech Ranked As High as 10th in 2018-2019 Way-Too-Early Top 25s

The 2017-2018 college basketball season came to a close last night will Villanova beating Michigan for the national title. With the end of the season came the way-too-early top 25 rankings which included multiple ACC teams including Virginia Tech. While the Hokies were barely in a few of these last year, what became clear is that the Hokies will be comfortably ranked in the top 25 to start next season unless any sudden departure happens. Among the major way-too-early top 25 rankings, all of them had the Hokies ranked in a range from tenth to 19th. Here's a look at the various rankings.

With the Hokies only losing Justin Bibbs and Devin Wilson, Virginia Tech should be able to improve after two years of consistency despite losing stars Seth Allen and Zach LeDay last season. While there is a chance that Nickeil Alexander-Walker could test the NBA Draft waters without signing with an agent, all signs point to the Hokies not losing any other of their star players. The Hokies are showing some interest in transfers though most of their targets appear to be guys who would have to sit out for a season before having two years of eligibility remaining. However, the Hokies have shown some interest in Maryland's Dion Wiley though its unknown how much traction they are gaining with him. The fact that Virginia Tech is almost a sure thing to be ranked starting next season is another great indicator of the tremendous job Buzz Williams has done building the Hokies into a NCAA Tournament regular. However, the Hokies will have the expectations of taking the next step and becoming a consistent top 20-25 program throughout next season especially given who they are returning next season.
