Last summer, Virginia Tech suffered a disappointing loss when talented three-point shooter Ty Outlaw suffered a
torn ACL that caused him to miss the 2017-2018 season. With Outlaw having used a medical redshirt previously, Outlaw had to apply to the NCAA to receive a sixth year of eligibility.
Today, the Hokies received some good news on Outlaw's status for next year.

Virginia Tech has announced that Ty Outlaw has received a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA. Outlaw is likely to have a significant role on next season's team as one of the top wings and three-point shooters for the Hokies. This news is not surprising as most expected that Outlaw would receive this approval.
During the 2016-2017 season, Outlaw averaged 6.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 17.7 minutes per game while shooting 48.6% from the field, 48.7% from three-point range, and 80% from the free-throw line.
The addition of Outlaw should help fill the gap left by Justin Bibbs on the wing. Outlaw gives the Hokies some versatility as a guy who can be used on the wing, or as a smaller 4 or even a 5 though VT should have the depth to not need Outlaw to play at center at any point next season unlike the 2016-2017 season.
For Ty Outlaw, this is great news as he will get one more year of college basketball after averaging 13.8 points per game in his final 8 games of the 2016-2017 season. During that time, Outlaw emerged as one of the ACC's best three-point shooters which included going 8-10 from three-point range in a win over
Miami.
Congrats to Ty Outlaw on receiving a sixth year of eligibility.
