Point guard Chanette Hicks announced she plans to transfer away from Virginia Tech on Tuesday. https://twitter.com/Andsheball_x12/status/983795897703321600 Hicks stepped away from the program midseason. Head coach Kenny Brooks announced on February 7 that she would step away from the program indefinitely to deal with a personal matter. Hicks, a junior from Norfolk who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall, was a starter for a majority of the games she played in this season. She started 16 games for the Hokies, shooting 47 percent from the field and 67 percent from the free throw line. She is known for her defensive abilities, becoming Virginia Tech’s all-time leader in steals on December 10, 2017 when she recorded her 253rd career steal. Just a few weeks later, she scored her 1,000th career point in a game against NC State. Chanette Hicks led the Hokies in scoring in two separate games this season. She scored 20 points in the win against Illinois and on December 16th, she scored 21 points while helping the Hokies defeat High Point. She helped the Hokies to key ACC wins this season, scoring 18 points and going 6-for-7 from the free throw line in a 73-64 win against Syracuse. In her sophomore season at Tech, she set the program record for steals in a season with 123. She led the ACC in total steals and steals per game, ranking second in the NCAA in total steals. We wish Chanette Hicks the best in her future endeavors.
