K Camden Lewis Has A Great Spring Game Visit to Virginia Tech

Numbers are tight for Virginia Tech and unlike their 2018 recruiting class, the Hokies appear to be very unlikely to offer a scholarship to a special teams specialist. However, the Hokies are targetting one of America's best kickers in the 2019 class as a potential preferred walk-on option in Camden Lewis. Lewis has taken a pair of visits to Virginia Tech this spring and recently, we caught up with the Cornelius, NC kicker to ask him about his recruitment. Camden Lewis told us that the Hokies are among some of his favorites in his recruitment currently along with Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Minnesota, Duke, and North Carolina. When we asked Lewis what stood out about VT, he told us that "the coaches are very committed to the program, and the fans and game day atmosphere is incredible." Lewis currently does not have any scholarship offers but as the fourth highest ranked kicker by both Chris Sailer Kicking and Kohl's Kicking, there is definitely a realistic chance that Lewis receives some power 5 offers this summer. Lewis has taken a pair of visits to Blacksburg this spring including a visit for the Hokies' Spring Game. How was his Spring Game visit? "It was great! There was a lot of energy at the spring game. The fans showed up and were very excited," Lewis said. "The atmosphere and entrance at VT always stands out to me. The fans are so passionate about the team and really get into the game. Even when I was driving into the school, I saw the fans around the stadium tailgating hours before the game." The fact that VT made such a strong impression on Lewis for his first visit on what would be a game weekend of sorts is a nice boost for the Hokies. Right now, Virginia Tech has to be considered among the frontrunners in part because of their regional connections alongside other major programs like Georgia, South Carolina, and UNC. Minnesota is a school to keep an eye on as they have shown a lot of interest in Lewis. However, all of this speculative at this point as Camden Lewis's recruitment could change if he receives power 5 offers this summer. If so, it's hard to see the Hokies having the room to extend an offer to one of America's most talented kickers but for now, VT is making him their PWO priority at kicker and off to a great start in his recruitment.
