Virginia Tech Football Notes 6/2/18

Fuente Keene Savoy 1
While Adonis Alexander's departure and Jeremy Webb's injury have drawn the headlines in Blacksburg, there have been other things happening around the Virginia Tech football program. Here's some other notes from this past week.

Kyle Chung Named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List

Watch list season is under way and the Hokies have had their first player named to a watch list. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/1001872962230906880 Kyle Chung was one of 57 centers named to the Rimington Trophy watch list this past week. Chung was one of eight centers from the ACC named to this award watch list. After starting every game last season at right tackle, Chung moved back inside to take over the starting center spot with Eric Gallo graduating. Chung has had some experience at center previously and appeared to quickly solidify himself as the top guy at center early this past spring. The sixth year senior will be expected to be a leader on an offensive line that returns starting offensive tackle Yosuah Nijman and starting right guard Braxton Pfaff.

Virginia Tech-Old Dominion Kickoff Time and Network Revealed

Last year, Virginia Tech's game against Old Dominion was limited to ESPN3 but this fall, the Hokies' game against ODU will be shown on TV. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/1002195622810841088 The two schools announced this week that the game will kick off at 3:30pm and be shown on CBS Sports Network. This is the second-straight year that the Hokies will play a game on CBS Sports Network after playing East Carolina on the road on CBS Sports Network last season. This will be the Hokies' first trip to Old Dominion after VT beat ODU 38-0 at home this past season in the first ever matchup between the two teams. This also won't be the last time VT makes the trip to Norfolk as the Hokies are scheduled to return to Norfolk in 2022, 2024, and 2027.

Virginia Tech Set to Kick Off Camp Season

As summer gets under way, Virginia Tech will host their first recruiting camp of the summer in Blacksburg this weekend. The Hokies will have some intriguing visitors in town including 2020 center Seth Williams who previously told us about the interest the Hokies have been showing in. Don't be surprised to see the Hokies extend some offers in the 2020 and 2021 classes this weekend as VT continues to do early evaluations of prospects in those classes. Given Virginia Tech's tight numbers, it would be surprising to see 2019 offers go out though if one does, that will be a major statement about how Virginia Tech's staff views that player given the numbers' situation. The Hokies are also about to hit the road for multiple satellite camps over the next two weeks according to Recruit 757. The Hokies' first camp will be in the Richmond area on Tuesday with stops to follow in New Jersey, Jacksonville, Atlanta, the Washington D.C. area, and the 757 over the next two weeks.
