Clarence Lewis saw an opportunity last week to earn his first offer with Virginia Tech hosting a satellite camp in his home state of New Jersey. The Edison, NJ DB impressed the Hokies last week and earned his first offer. https://twitter.com/lewisclarence11/status/1004535289925259264 In the immediate aftermath of receiving that offer, Lewis said that this was his reaction. "I was just in shock. I didn’t know what to do and still am in shock at this moment," Lewis told us last week. With this offer, Lewis knows that he will gain a lot more attention nationally from power 5 programs especially because of the Hokies' reputation as DBU. "I believe this offer will impact my recruitment in huge way because VT is a great school and a great breeding ground for defensive backs." Clarence Lewis knows that Virginia Tech has a strong reputation for their development of defensive backs and it's one of the biggest things that should help the Hokies in his recruitment. "It impacts me greatly knowing that there has been great success within the defensive back group over the course of many years. Virginia Tech should also benefit from being his first offer, something that means a lot to Lewis. "VT will always be important to me in my recruitment because they were the first team to believe in my abilities, and that means a lot to me." Looking ahead, Lewis told us that he plans to take a visit to Virginia Tech with that being the only visit he intends to take at the moment. However, that is likely to change with his recruitment really just starting with this VT offer. The Hokies have made New Jersey a high priority on the recruiting trail under Justin Fuente and have had some success including gaining the commitment of 2019 four-star DB Nyquee Hawkins earlier this year. With the Hokies hosting another satellite camp in New Jersey and extending an offer to Lewis, VT is making it clear that the Garden State will continue to be a priority in the future on the recruiting trail. Clarence Lewis took advantage of an opportunity last week and earned his first offer from Virginia Tech. However, the Hokies likely won't be the last school to offer the New Jersey defensive back.
