SG Jarren McAllister Released From LOI to Virginia Tech

VT Cheerleaders Clemson 1 1
Earlier today, news broke that three-star SG Jarren McAllister has asked to be released from his National Letter of Intent and will receive his full release from Virginia Tech. https://twitter.com/JustinByerly/status/1022846204999290880 In addition, Jarren McAllister will reclassify to the 2019 class according to the Charlotte Observer. In the Charlotte Observer piece, McAllister mentions that the departures of Steve Roccaforte and Jeff Reynolds were a factor in his decision to request a release from his NLI. McAllister's departure is definitely surprising as it is rare to see a player ask for his release from his NLI weeks before his arrival on a collegiate campus. Given the surprising decision, McAllister has also made the wise decision to reclassify to 2019, opening the door for him to receive a greater number of opportunities. With McAllister's departure, the Hokies are down to two incoming players in four-star SG/SF Landers Nolley and three-star PG Jon Kabongo. However, the Hokies are also pursuing late 2018 riser Isaiah Wilkins who previously told us that VT leads in his recruitment. In addition to the Hokies, Wilkins is being pursued as a 2018 recruit by Wake Forest, Wichita State, and Dayton. In addition, McAllister's departure makes it realistic that the Hokies will have an open scholarship to start the season. If they do, the Hokies could try to pursue a mid-year transfer that would be able to enroll in the spring and possibly be eligible the following spring.
