Four-star WR Ray Grier has emerged as one of the top 10 recruits in the state of North Carolina in the 2020 class. This past weekend, the Belmont, NC recruit visited Virginia Tech for their Blacksburg Bash recruiting barbecue.
Grier told us that he had a “great” visit to Blacksburg with his time spent with the players and coaches standing out to him.
“The coaches and the player really stood out. It was awesome to get to speak with them. It was way more informational than speaking with them during a camp or during practice. I got to hang out with Phil Patterson and asked him a ton of questions I had about VT. Overall, it was a great experience,” Grier told us.
In addition to that, Grier also said that the campus stood out to him on his visit.
How did this visit impact his recruitment and VT’s standing in it?
“It definitely solidifies them as one of my top choices,” Grier said.
In addition, Grier told us that Virginia Tech is standing out in his recruitment along with Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
“The energy from the staff there is amazing. Beyond football, VT is overall a great school,” Grier said about why VT is standing out for him.
Grier told us before the weekend that his visit to Blacksburg was the only visit he had currently scheduled though it’s likely he’ll visit the Hokies and some of his other top schools this fall.
Looking ahead to 2020, the state of North Carolina will once again be a priority for the Hokies with Grier being among VT’s top target in their bordering state alongside four-star DB Cameron Roseman-Sinclair, four-star DE Jacolbe Cowan, and four-star WR Porter Rooks.
Since the Hokies offered Ray Grier, Virginia Tech has made the North Carolina WR a priority and has quickly emerged as a top contender for him.
