DT Cam Goode Leaves Virginia Tech

Helmet 1 2
Less than a week before the start of fall camp, Virginia Tech announced today that Cam Goode has decided to transfer away from VT and has been given a full release from his scholarship. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/1024317883202129920 Cam Goode was a high three-star DT coming out of high school and played in this year's Under Armour All-America Game. Goode was expected to compete for playing time as a backup defensive tackle alongside Jarrod Hewitt and Xavier Burke. With Goode's departure, Virginia Tech no longer has a true, on-scholarship defensive tackle from their 2018 class after Joe Kane moved to the offensive line this spring. Jaevon Becton was brought in as a defensive end, but has the size to play defensive tackle and given Goode's departure, Charley Wiles may look to give Becton some reps at DT this fall. For the Hokies, defensive tackle is now a major long-term concern with Ricky Walker and Vinny Mihota both set to leave after this season and only one semi-proven backup returning in Jarrod Hewitt. The departure of Goode does open up a scholarship that VT definitely was not expecting to have. Given the need at defensive tackle, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Hokies pursue a JUCO defensive lineman who they believe can start at DT next year.
