Khadim Sy Leaves Virginia Tech For a Second Time

Virginia Tech announced that center Khadim Sy has left the men's basketball program for a second time. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1029022130070069249 Sy previously left the Hokies in mid-September before walking back on the team in December. Reports have suggested that Sy intends to transfer to a junior college for the upcoming season. https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/1029017448840929282 In his one season playing for the Hokies (2016-17), Sy averaged 4.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks in 11.4 minutes per game. Sy also shot 56.7% from the field and 59.3% from the free-throw line as well during that season. Sy's departure leaves a gap for the Hokies in the frontcourt as his departure leaves the Hokies with only one player taller than 6'6'' who is expected to be a significant contributor in Kerry Blackshear. With Blackshear poised to be a redshirt junior, it becomes critical for the Hokies to bring in at least one big man in their 2019 class with the need for either two 2019 big men or a transfer with more than one year of eligibility to go with a 2019 big man.
