Hokies ranked No. 20 in Preseason AP Top 25

LETS GO SIGN 1
The Virginia Tech football team will enter the 2018 season ranked No. 20 in the AP Preseason Poll. The Hokies’ ranking is four spots above their final 2017 ranking of No. 24. The poll marks the second time that the Hokies have been ranked in the preseason under head coach Justin Fuente and is the highest initial ranking the team has received during Fuente's tenure. It is also the second consecutive season that Virginia Tech has appeared in the Preseason Top 25 after starting the year ranked No. 21 in 2017. Three of the Hokies’ 2018 opponents, two of which are ACC schools, appear in the rankings as well. Miami (8), Notre Dame (12) and Florida State (19) are all ranked ahead of Tech. Defending ACC champion Clemson is also ranked, coming in at No. 2. The Hokies will kick off their 2018 season with a matchup at Florida State in Tallahassee. The Week 1 contest is the first time since 2009-2010 that Virginia Tech has opened back-to-back seasons with Top 25 matchups after the Hokies opened up last season against No. 22 West Virginia. The game against FSU will take place on Monday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN as part of their Week 1 coverage of college football. The matchup against Notre Dame has been highly-anticipated and has the potential to be an even bigger matchup now with both teams entering the season in the top 20. The Hokies won the first ever meeting between the two programs in 2016 at Notre Dame. The Irish visit Blacksburg for the first time on October 6.
