Virginia Tech is Among 3 Standing Out For 2021 Four-Star WR Gavin Blackwell

Fan 1
Gavin Blackwell has already emerged as one of the top wide receivers in the 2021 class with 247 Sports ranking him as the fifth best 2021 WR in their 2021 top 100. Being given that type of respect definitely excited the four-star North Carolina native. "It feels great but I’m gonna work harder to be ranked higher," Blackwell said about his reaction to his 247 Sports ranking. What's clear is that Blackwell is going to be one of the top receivers in the 2021 class. The good news for Virginia Tech is that the Hokies are one of three schools standing out for Blackwell along with North Carolina and East Carolina. When asked about why VT is standing out, Blackwell told us that he "loves everything about VT." When we asked for some of the specific things that stand out to him about VT, this is what he told us. "Definitely the coaching staff, they treat you like your already family and that’s what I love about them," Blackwell told us. That strong relationship took off this past spring when Holmon Wiggins offered Blackwell after watching him practice at Sun Valley HS. At the moment, Blackwell told us that Virginia Tech and North Carolina are recruiting him the hardest with the 2021 wideout hoping to visit the Hokies, Tar Heels, and East Carolina this fall. Given the recent ranking, Blackwell is going to be one of the top receivers for high school football fans to watch in the Mid-Atlantic. So what type of receiver would Blackwell describe himself as? "I feel like I’m faster than a lot of DBs that guard me and I can run the whole route tree. I’m not very physical but I get the separation and the space that I need for my quarterback Sam Howell, which he can put the ball anywhere, but I feel like I do a good job at just getting open period," Blackwell said. Though Blackwell has benefited from playing with one of the best 2019 quarterbacks in the country in Sam Howell, it's clear that the Sun Valley HS sophomore is quite talented in his own right. Ahead of opening kickoff this past Friday night, Blackwell told us about one of his personal goals for this season. "I want to break 1,000 receiving yards. That’s my ultimate goal this season," Blackwell said. Gavin Blackwell is going to be a name to remember in the Mid-Atlantic in the 2021 class and the good news for the Hokies is that they have made themselves a top contender early on in his recruitment.

Gavin Blackwell in the Recruiting Rankings

Blackwell is ranked as the 37th best 2021 recruit, fifth best wide receiver, and third best North Carolina recruit by 247 Sports.
