After a
62-17 win over William & Mary, the Virginia Tech Hokies dropped one spot in the AP Poll despite receiving more votes while climbing a few spots in the Coaches Poll.

The Hokies dropped from 12th to 13th in this week's AP Poll largely due to Penn State's blowout win over Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech rose from 14th to 11th in this week's Coaches Poll.
While many may be surprised by Virginia Tech's drop, it shouldn't be seen as too surprising given how Penn State beat a power 5 team in Pittsburgh while the Hokies simply blew out a FCS team. Though the Hokies did drop in the AP Poll, they did receive more votes this week than last week.
Over the next two weeks, expect the Hokies to continue to trend sideways in the polls between the 10-14 range given the lack of high-profile matchups nationally and the fact that VT is playing a weak schedule facing East Carolina and Old Dominion.
The Hokies are one of three ACC teams ranked in this week's AP Poll with Clemson staying at #2 after winning 28-26 at Texas A&M and Miami moving up from 22nd to 21st after beating Savannah State 77-0. Notre Dame stayed at #8 this week after beating Ball State 24-16 with the Fighting Irish hosting current #9 Stanford the week before travelling to Blacksburg.
