Virginia Tech Rises to 10th in the Coaches Poll, Gains Votes in the AP Poll

After a bye week due to Hurricane Florence forcing the cancellation of Virginia Tech's game against East Carolina, the Hokies continued to rise and gain more support in the polls. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/1041387619563851778 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/1041374375881125888 Virginia Tech rose one spot from 11th to 10th in the Coaches Poll while staying 13th in the AP Poll despite gaining around 20 voter points with Wisconsin dropping past them after their loss to BYU and West Virginia moving ahead after being one vote behind last week. With the #10 ranking in the Coaches Poll, this is the first time that Virginia Tech has been ranked in the top 10 of the AP or Coaches Poll during the Justin Fuente era. The Hokies are one of four ACC teams in this week's AP Poll with Clemson dropping from 2nd to 3rd, Miami staying at #21, and Boston College jumping in to the top 25 at #23 for the first time in almost a decade. In addition, upcoming opponent Notre Dame stayed at #8 while Duke received the third most votes of unranked teams and has a realistic chance at being ranked when they face VT. While Virginia Tech has moved sideways in the polls the last couple of weeks, the Hokies' opportunities to prove that they are worthy of a top 10 ranking are coming after, of course, they get through a road game against Old Dominion where they are almost 30-point favorites. https://twitter.com/normwood/status/1041428808866377729 Given the opponent, don't expect the Hokies to make much of a move in next week's polls unless chaos happens elsewhere.
