After not being able to watch their football team play last week, Virginia Tech fans are excited for this weekend’s game. Adding to the hype for this weekend’s matchup against Old Dominion, Virginia Tech announced the uniforms for Saturday, and the Hokies are breaking out the orange jerseys for the first time in 2018. [embed]https://twitter.com/HokiesFB/status/1042822779555508225[/embed] The announcement, made on Twitter, revealed that the Hokies will be wearing white helmets, orange jerseys and white pants for their matchup against the Monarchs. The announcement was met with mixed reviews as some fans prefer the more traditional look of a maroon or white jersey, but others like the team branching out and including orange in its combo. Virginia Tech underwent a uniform redesign over the offseason, and many fans thought that orange jerseys would be a big part of the Hokies’ look in 2018. After wearing orange jerseys in the 2017 game against UNC, some thought those were the future of the Hokies’ uniforms. The 2018 jerseys look similar to those worn against the Tar Heels, but have slanted shoulder stripes and a Hokie Stone pattern within the numbers. I personally like this uniform combo, although I don’t think this is the game to break it out. The orange jerseys should be reserved for the Orange Effect game each season, and should not be worn more than once a year. I like that the program is using all of the colors in its scheme, but the Orange Effect is a special occasion and if they wear orange uniforms too often, they will start to lose their appeal. The team should have saved these jerseys for the Oct. 25 game against Georgia Tech, but I wouldn't be surprised if they break them out again for that Thursday night game. Fans can see the orange jerseys in action for the first time when Virginia Tech kicks off against Old Dominion at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday. Photo Credit: Virginia Tech Athletics
