After a disappointing loss at Old Dominion, Virginia Tech responded with a statement win on the road beating 22nd-ranked Duke 31-14. Because of their performance, the Hokies were rewarded with the biggest stage for next week's showdown with Notre Dame.

ESPN announced that the Virginia Tech-Notre Dame game will be played at 8pm and broadcast on ABC. This is the second-straight year that the Hokies have had an early October game in primetime on ABC after hosting Clemson in primetime on ABC last season.
