Virginia Tech narrowly pulled off a win over North Carolina on Saturday night, driving the ball 98 yards down the field to complete the come-from-behind victory. Lots of individual players put in deserving performances, but wide receiver Sean Savoy and linebacker Rayshard Ashby have earned our Hokie of the Game honors.

Offensive Hokie of the Game: Sean Savoy

Savoy finished the game with six receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown. His touchdown came early in the second half when Virginia Tech was down 16-7. On second and six from the North Carolina 13-yard line, Ryan Willis threw a screen pass to Savoy, who ran it 13 yards for the touchdown to give the Tech offense new life. Savoy was also critical on the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter, making two receptions to help the Hokies march down the field. One of his receptions set up a first down as Savoy got out of bounds at the UNC 16-yard line, giving the Hokies time to reset before the eventual go-ahead touchdown.

Defensive Hokie of the Game: Rayshard Ashby

On the defensive side of the game, first-year starter Rayshard Ashby put in one of his best performances of the season, tallying 11 total tackles and one tackle for loss. Ashby led the team in tackles, and six of his were solo. His 11 tackles are the second most he has made in a game this season after making 15 against Duke two weeks ago. The sophomore linebacker now has 51 tackles on the season in his first year as a starting defender. He leads the team in both tackles and tackles for loss six games into the season, making 6.5 tackles for loss so far this year. Congrats to Sean Savoy and Rayshard Ashby for being named our Hokies of the Game.
