OL D'Andre Plantin Will Transfer Away From Virginia Tech

Football Practice 2481
Earlier today, Andy Bitter of The Athletic reported that D'Andre Plantin has asked for his release and will transfer away from Virginia Tech. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/1054101939548553217 D'Andre Plantin leaves Virginia Tech after making double-digit appearances over the past two years including a pair of high-profile opportunities at left tackle replacing an injured Yosuah Nijman last season. The departure of Plantin comes after the Georgian was expected to be the starting left guard for most of the offseason till the depth chart revealed that Zachariah Hoyt would start at center, pushing veteran Kyle Chung to left guard. Since, Plantin had been the #2 right guard, but his playing time has been limited over recent weeks. With Plantin's departure, expect Austin Cannon or John Harris to take Plantin's spot on the two-deep as the backup right guard. While Plantin's role had been limited in recent weeks, he seemed poised for a starting offensive guard job next season alongside Lecitus Smith with Kyle Chung and Braxton Pfaff in their final seasons. With Plantin gone, the Hokies should have some competition at right guard with Tyrell Smith, Austin Cannon, and John Harris all among the potential contenders for the job.
