Dax Hollifield will become the fourth freshman to wear the honorary No. 25 jersey for Virginia Tech, just one game after Chamarri Conner was the third first-year player to earn the honor. Divine Deablo and Oscar Bradburn are the only other players to wear the jersey as freshmen. [embed]https://twitter.com/HokiesFB/status/1054827688844767234[/embed] “He does a great job. He puts the extra work in, always in the weight room and watching film. He’s embraced his role and continues to get better and help us win games,” head coach Justin Fuente said in a tweet by the HokiesFB Twitter account. Hollifield came to Virginia Tech from Shelby, N.C. As a four-star recruit, he was one of the highest-rated commits in the Hokies’ 2018 class. Hollifield was named a 2018 U.S. Army All-American after recording 150 tackles in his senior season. The highly-touted freshman has made an impact since arriving on campus. Hollifield has played in six games for the Hokies, making 19 total tackles and eight solo tackles. He’s recorded three tackles for loss. The game against North Carolina on Oct. 13 was the best of Hollifield’s young career. He recorded a season-high seven tackles, including one tackle for loss, as the Hokies defeated UNC 22-19. Hollifield joins Ricky Walker, Eric Kumah, Jovonn Quillen, Oscar Bradburn, Khalil Ladler and Chamarri Conner as the players to be honored with the No. 25 jersey this season. The first-year linebacker will lead the Hokies onto the field this Thursday when they host Georgia Tech at 8 p.m.
