Virginia Tech hosted multiple talented recruits this past weekend for their game against Miami including 2020 four-star WR Ray Grier. After the weekend, Grier caught up with us to talk about his visit and give us some insight into his upcoming visits.
Grier told us that he had a “blast” and that it was a “great” visit for the wide receiver from North Carolina. What stood out to him about his visit?
“Everything grabs your attention when you in Blacksburg. It’s a great place to be on a Saturday. You can feel the energy,” Grier said.
Grier added that he felt Virginia Tech’s campus was “pretty cool” and that he did have the opportunity to spend some time with the coaching staff during his visit.
Looking ahead, Grier will be busy over the next two weeks as the four-star WR will visit Appalachian State this upcoming weekend followed by a trip to South Carolina.
This was Grier’s second trip to Blacksburg over the past few months as the Hokies continue to be among those recruiting him the hardest alongside South Carolina, Notre Dame, and Purdue. So far, the Hokies and Gamecocks look like the frontrunners on paper given the interest that has been shown both ways though the Fighting Irish and Boilermakers seem like potential contenders if they decide to offer him.
Grier is featured in a more run-oriented offense that limits his offense but similar to a current Hokie who was featured in a run-oriented offense in high school in Hezekiah Grimsley, Grier has been a big play machine with the ball in his hands. So far, Grier has 19 receptions for an impressive 482 yards and 6 touchdowns averaging an impressive 25.4 yards per reception. In addition, Grier has shown his athleticism featuring on the defensive side of the ball for his team as well with 2 interceptions in his most recent high school game.
Virginia Tech has made Ray Grier a top priority at wide receiver in the 2020 class and so far, the Hokies are emerging as a top contender for one of 2020’s most dangerous wide receivers.
