Virginia Tech football fans will once again see a familiar look when the Hokies take the field this weekend. The team revealed its uniform choice for Saturday’s game against Marshall, and it’s the same look they used in last week’s win over Virginia. The facemasks of the helmets will be white, throwing it back to the Frank Beamer era for the second straight week. This will be the fifth time Virginia Tech has used some variety of this combination this season. The Hokies wore maroon-maroon-white against North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Boston College and UVA. The variations include changing the color of the facemask and switching between matte maroon and the traditional maroon helmets. Wearing this combination, Virginia Tech is 2-2 on the season. However, in the only game where they have worn these exact uniforms, they are 1-0 after beating UVA in overtime last weekend. I liked this choice of uniform last week due to the tradition it represents within the program and how fitting it was for a big rivalry such as UVA. I still like the look this week, but it doesn’t seem as fitting for this game. I guess if you consider the fact that Tech has to win in order to keep its 25-year bowl streak alive, it fits the idea of honoring the history of the team. Regardless of if the uniform fits the narrative for this weekend’s game or not, fans will see this combination for the second week in a row when Virginia Tech kicks off against Marshall at noon this Saturday.
