2020 Three-Star WR Jalin Hyatt Close to a Decision

Jalin Hyatt 2018 SC Title
Virginia Tech has been one of several power 5 programs to show lots of interest in talented 2020 WR Jalin Hyatt. Now, the South Carolina playmaker is closing in on making a decision with multiple schools hoping to gain his commitment. Hyatt told us that he is "close" to making a decision and that he does have a top school. However, Hyatt told us that he is "not ready" to make a public decision saying, "I'm still talking to my family and making sure this is the best decision for me." In addition, Hyatt said that his focus is on the offers that he does have, but that he is also "keeping everything open." Virginia Tech and Duke are continuing to recruit Hyatt the hardest with the Hokies, Blue Devils, and Clemson receiving visits from him this past fall. Looking ahead, Hyatt hopes to visit Virginia Tech, Clemson, Duke, and South Carolina in the near future though some of those plans could change if he does make a decision soon. While Hyatt only has five power 5 offers at the moment, he seems bound to receive more offers after having 71 receptions for 1,316 yards and 21 touchdowns on his way to winning a state title with Dutch Fork HS (Irmo, SC) this past season. Hyatt has proven to be one of the top playmakers in the Carolinas and will be a very good pickup wherever he goes. Given his talent, Hyatt knows that he has the potential to play early and often in his collegiate career with that being among the key factors in his decision-making process. "Obviously, making sure it’s the right place for me, making sure I’ll play if I go, and making sure they have my major (business)," Hyatt said. While the first factor is extremely player dependent, the second and third should both make Hokie fans optimistic especially with VT's strong business school and how wide receivers have been able to earn time as true freshman over the past two years including Tre Turner, Hezekiah Grimsley, and Sean Savoy. In addition, the three-star WR told us earlier this fall that he had a "great" visit to Blacksburg when he visited the Hokies for their game against Notre Dame. Though more teams could offer him, they may end up being too late with Hyatt having no intentions of changing his commitment at a later date once he makes it. "When I am committed, I want to be fully in," Hyatt said. Of course, there are plenty of understandable reasons that can lead recruits to changing their decision, but the fact that Hyatt wants to make sure that he is "fully in" with the school that he commits to is a great sign for that school. Virginia Tech and Duke look like the top contenders with Clemson lurking on the outside without an offer at this moment. Both the Hokies and Blue Devils have been consistent in their interest and pursuit of Hyatt while the Tigers have the in-state factor along with their name brand power that loom large should they offer. While Duke is a serious contender and Clemson looms large, the Hokies are our current pick if Hyatt makes his decision soon. The Hokies have made Hyatt a top 2020 wide receiver priority for several months and gaining him this early in the 2020 cycle would be a significant boost to VT's class to go alongside three-star QB commit Tyler Warren. In addition, Hyatt has been on campus multiple times and appears to be comfortable in Blacksburg with Hyatt mentioning that he's been in contact with VT in regards to determining his next visit. Jalin Hyatt is "close" to a decision with Virginia Tech and Duke among the top contenders and Clemson continuing to lurk as a possible, but unknown threat.
