JUCO CB Brion Murray Updates His Recruitment

Brion Murray 1
Virginia Tech is looking to add a JUCO defensive back to their 2019 class with Brion Murray out of Coffeyville CC emerging as the top target. Over the past several days, Murray took an official visit to Virginia Tech with an offer from the Hokies following days later after an in-home visit with CBs coach Brian Mitchell. Murray told us that he was "very thankful" for the offer from the Hokies. Before that, Murray visited Virginia Tech on a "great" official visit that he "really enjoyed." https://twitter.com/BrionMurray__/status/1071896392485007360 Murray added that the "academic presentation and the conversations with the coaches" stood out about his official visit. He also added that he "likes them (VT) a lot" after his visit and past week of interest from the Hokies. While there were rumors about Murray taking a visit to Texas Tech, Murray confirmed to us yesterday that he was not visiting Lubbock. With that decision, it gave Virginia Tech the only visit from Murray ahead of Early Signing Day this upcoming Wednesday. In addition, Murray told us that he still plans to sign this Wednesday and be an early enrollee this spring. Though Murray didn't visit Lubbock this week, he did have an in-home visit with Texas Tech's cornerbacks coach with that visit coming after his in-home visit with Brian Mitchell. At this point, Virginia Tech appears to be the frontrunner to gain his commitment and is also where we're currently predicting Murray to end up. However, both schools aren't out of it with the possibility still existing that he could gain more offers. Wherever Murray goes, he'll have three years of eligibility after spending a redshirt year at the JUCO level. For the Hokies, Murray should have the opportunity to come in and compete for early playing time on the cornerback depth chart especially after some of the struggles VT had this past season. However, VT's depth has the potential to be significantly better with VT's young cornerbacks having another year of experience along with the return of Jeremy Webb (after he recovers from another Achilles injury) and Murray if he chooses the Hokies. Virginia Tech is in good shape at the moment for Brion Murray after a great week on the recruiting trail in their pursuit of him, but the Hokies still have some work to seal the deal this Wednesday.
