After winning its only game this week, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will stay at No. 13 in the AP Poll. The Hokies defeated Washington 73-61 on Saturday to earn the ranking for the second straight week. Tech is now 9-1 on the season, the only loss coming at Penn State on Nov. 27. Since then, the Hokies have won four straight, and most of their wins have been in dominating fashion. However, Washington is only the third Power 5 opponent Tech has played this season, following Purdue and Penn State. Four other ACC teams received rankings in this week’s poll, including three in the top 10. No. 2 Duke, No. 5 Virginia and No. 9 North Carolina are all top 10 teams this week. UVA moved up a spot despite not playing a game this week while UNC moved up four spots after picking up a win over No. 4 Gonzaga. Gonzaga has since fallen to No. 8 in the poll. Florida State is the other ranked ACC team, coming in at No. 11. Tech rounds out the five ranked squads at No. 13. NC State and Louisville are each receiving votes in this week’s poll. Virginia Tech will go for its fifth-straight win on Wednesday when it hosts North Carolina A&T in Cassell Coliseum. Wednesday’s game will be the beginning of a four-game home stretch that will take the Hokies into ACC play. Tech’s first conference opponents are Notre Dame on Jan. 1 and Boston College on Jan. 5.
