“I’m excited knowing I now have the chance to play in Blacksburg,” Raikes said about his reaction to a VT offer.
Raikes said that he was hopeful to receive an offer from VT soon but that it was “ultimately a surprise” for him. He added that the Hokies are a school that he will be “visiting and communicating with often to see if it is for me.”
Raikes has several power 5 offers currently and told us that those schools are standing out for him. Raikes also added that he is hoping to visit the power 5 schools that have offered him along with Clemson who hasn’t offered him yet.
ACC interest is high for Raikes with Duke and Wake Forest recruiting him the hardest. Meanwhile, the Hokies seem likely to become more involved now that they’ve offered while Raikes is also receiving interest from several other power 5 schools who could offer soon including Clemson, a dream school of his, plus NC State, North Carolina, Northwestern, and Purdue.
The increase in interest shouldn’t be a surprise after Raikes 44 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks as a junior. Additionally, Raikes was actually productive on offense with 200 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns.
So how would Raikes describe his style of play?
“I’m quick and strategic using my football knowledge to get after it every play of the game,” Raikes said.
Looking ahead, the New Jersey DT plans to commit by early this fall even though he isn’t sure when he may start to trim down his list?
“I have no idea on the trim but I plan to commit right before the season or during the season,” Raikes said.
For now, Virginia Tech is getting involved in one of the best defensive tackles in the Northeast and is hoping to be his choice next year.
