Josh Jackson Officially Ruled Out for Military Bowl

Justin Fuente announced today that Josh Jackson will be out for the Military Bowl. While this does not come as a major surprise, there was some hope that Jackson would recover from his torn fibula in time. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/1078342578146283520 Jackson, who suffered the injury last September against Old Dominion, is back on the practice field. However, Fuente said that Jackson "is just not cleared and not healthy enough to go play." This isn't surprising considering Jackson didn't get out of his crutches until October. The redshirt sophomore from Ann Arbor, Michigan threw for 517 yards, 5 touchdowns and one interception in three games this season. As a freshman, he threw for almost 3,000 yards while tossing 20 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Since Josh Jackson has played in fewer than four games this season, it seems likely that we will see Jackson and the Hokies pursue a medical redshirt and a sixth year of eligibility. Given the circumstances, Jackson should have a very strong case for being awarded that sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. As it has been the last nine games, Ryan Willis will be the starter. Willis will look to build off his terrific performance against Marshall, in which he threw for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns earning our Offensive Hokie of the Game honors.
