Virginia Tech Surprises 2020 Three-Star DT Gary Smith With An Offer

VT Fans 1
Virginia Tech has sent out several offers over the past week which included one to 2020 three-star DT Gary Smith out of Shelbyville, TN. https://twitter.com/iamGS3/status/1083926609139240960 "I was surprised because I wasn’t expecting to get an offer tonight," Smith said in the immediate aftermath of receiving an offer. "I was expecting one eventually, but I just didn’t know when." Smith received the offer from DL coach Charley Wiles that night. Smith told us that the offer is "big for my recruitment" and added that he believes it could also attract more interest in him. Currently, Vanderbilt is recruiting Smith the hardest though the Hokies extending an offer now could change that very quickly. Looking ahead, Smith already has multiple visits on his calendar including a trip to Virginia Tech next weekend for the Hokies first Junior Day of 2019. Smith also has plans to visit South Carolina, Tennessee, and UAB in the coming weeks. So what is Smith hoping to see on his first visit to Blacksburg? "I heard it was a great town so I’m looking forward to seeing everything that makes it great," Smith said. This visit should also present a chance for Smith to build a stronger relationship with the Virginia Tech coaching staff which he currently describes as being "pretty good." Virginia Tech made a good first impression on Gary Smith, and has the opportunity to improve on that next weekend.
