The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team stayed at No. 9 in the latest AP Poll this week, setting up what could be the biggest basketball game in the history of the commonwealth. The Hokies will travel to Charlottesville tomorrow night to take on in-state rival UVA, who is ranked No. 4 in the country with a record of 15-0. Both teams have had highly successful seasons so far and are undefeated in conference play. The Hokies have won nine straight games, including three in ACC play. They blew out Notre Dame on Jan. 1 to open up the conference schedule while their games against Boston College and Georgia Tech were a little closer. UVA, meanwhile, has picked up conference wins over Florida State, Boston College and Clemson, winning the last contest by 20 points. The series between the Hokies and the Cavs was split last season, with Tech winning in Charlottesville and UVA winning in Blacksburg. The Hokies will look to get a similar result tomorrow night when they tip off at John Paul Jones Arena. Four other ACC teams were featured in this week’s AP Poll. No. 1 Duke, No. 11 Florida State and No. 13 North Carolina all made the top 15 while NC State is just behind at No. 17. Louisville is on the outside looking in, receiving 112 votes in this week’s poll. This week will feature two top 10 ACC contests as UVA travels to Duke on Saturday to take on the No. 1 Blue Devils. The matchup between Tech and UVA tips off at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Charlottesville, and fans can find it on regional sports networks.
